PRE-MARITAL COUNSELING CLASS
This is a class for those people who are engaged to get married. The class is organized and facilitated by Elder Jeff Thige and his wife, Susan Thige. It takes six months to go through the curricular that involves 12 topics. These delve deep into the details of how to prepare for marriage, from the planning stage to lessons on how to navigate married life. It is highly recommended that anyone intending to get married attends the class before the actual wedding.
COUPLES MINISTRY
The church has availed an opportunity for married couples to have a forum where they can meet and learn together. Elder Jeff Thige and his wife Susan lead this ministry and organize activities for the married couples to engage in, through the year. Other committee members currently are: Emmanuel & Carol Manduwa, Harry & Maureen Bett and Davies & Betty Ochieng.
Recently, the class saw enrollment of married couples who had not gone through a pre-marital counseling before their wedding. This is because the foundational truths about marriage are so vital and as the bible says, “my people perish for lack of knowledge” and so for the moment, the class is also open to those who are already married but did not attend the class before the wedding. It is never too late to learn. The knowledge will still help you and/or help you to help others.
Couples have been divided into various groups based on how long they have been married. These groups are allowed to come up with their own programme throughout the year, but the committee maintains responsibility for quarterly meetings which involve the whole group, where all the groups are required to attend.
Activities include seminars, outings, retreats, discussion groups, prayer sessions, annual dinners etc.
COUNSELING CLASS
Last year, 2018, the church organized for a certificate course in Basic Counselling Skills that took three months. Nine people attended the training out of which six were able to sit for exams and graduate.
Knowledge of basic counseling classes is paramount for any church leader and generally anyone who loves to give support to people. In this class, you get to learn counseling skills as well as basic theories in counseling that help you to understand and know how to handle various challenges or circumstances in life. This brings a lot of healing. One is able to relate and respond to others in a way that helps them explore their thoughts, feelings and consider their behavior. This helps them to reach a clearer self-understanding and be able to find and use their strength to cope more effectively with life by making appropriate decisions or taking relevant action.
Anyone interested in attending such a class is encouraged to forward their names to church office so that another class can be mounted. Once a quorum of eight people is realized, then the class can begin
