Pastor Isaac Kiragu

BIOGRAPHY

On 14th April 1945 Presbyter Isaac kiragu was born in Eldoret town and grew up outside the town in an agricultural environment. He received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour at the tail end of East African Revival in 1957 while young at age 12. He got baptized by immersion in 1961. Because of the move of God at that time, Protestant churches were referred to as Rwanda probably because of the East African Revival which had originated from Rwanda. One year after he got saved, his father died leaving him to struggle through issues of life but God was faithful to him and he was able to acquire appropriate education.
After “A” Levels he joined Price Waterhouse (auditing firm) as Accounts Trainee and subsequently he left and joined Coffee Board of Kenya where he served for 27 years as their Financial Controller, but was promoted to the top position of General Manager just before he retired into full time ministry in the year 2000. He got married to Tabitha Kiragu on 2nd June 1973 and God blessed them with three boys and one daughter.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

In 1988, while working in Coffee Board of Kenya, Pastor Kiragu went to Britain for further studies. It was during this study mission that the Lord’s hand was heavily on him and he spent most of his time reading the word of God and listening to anointed speakers through cassettes. He was then attending a Baptist Church where he sought help to be filled with the Holy Spirit but had no success.
By the end of 1989, the Lord had already spoken to him, telling him to go and speak the word and heal the sick. When it was clear that Pastor Kiragu was in the process of joining Chriso, he was attached to Cameo Church where he went through commitment class in 1990. Pastor Kiragu had interacted with Apostle and Mama Das for many years from the days of All Saints Cathedral since his wife was deeply involved with Chrisco work from inception.

In 1990, as he was going through commitment class, he was introduced to the ministry of Gideon International and this helped him to distribute scriptures to schools, colleges, hospitals, prisons and Kakuma Refugee Camp. He remained in this ministry for six years and eased off when he became a pastor because Gideons do not allow pastors to be members. He had to ease off from this ministry when he was placed in the position of pastor in training in 1996.

His involvement in Gideon ministry introduced him to prison ministry and after preaching in prisons for some years, he was invited to join Prison Fellowship Kenya as a director. In PFK he was the Vice Chairman for many years under chairmanship of Justice O’Kubasu. He resigned this position in 2013 on account of overwhelming responsibilities which had started eating into his efficiency.

In these outreach type of ministries and also in his involvement with missions, He was invited to be the chairman of Kenya Outreach and Research Network (KORN). This was purely a network of all those churches and institutions interested and active in missions. Its main role was to create a forum for fellowship where various churches, missionary groups and educational institutions dealing with missions would come together and share their experiences in the mission field. It was also dealing with research on outreach issues.

On 8th July 1990, while still in commitment class at Cameo, Apostle Das gave a King James Concordance Bible and wrote inside,

To Bro. Isaac Kiragu, with God’s blessings and a prayer that the Lord would quickly mature you in Himself and the knowledge of His word so that you can be raised up to play a vital part in Chrisco to help us spearhead the last stages of East African REVIVAL!! and hasten the coming of the Lord. From The DAS’ and Saints of Beulah Tabernacle

This gave him an assurance that he was welcome in Chrisco and it also triggered something else that was aching in him though he did not know its name – REVIVAL. He only knew it as a special move of God.
Revival was not a common word in his vocabulary as he was more concerned about survival in view of the fact that his father died when he was thirteen and immediately he became helpless and totally independent. It was not easy for him at this tender age to negotiate all corners of life. His illiterate mother was unemployed and had other children to feed and educate.
He had to work with his hands to raise funds for food and school fees throughout his school life. He was responsible for making all decisions for his life. Although he had been saved one year before his father died, he had no idea how much his heavenly Father loved and cared for him. All along he considered himself hard working and he invested all his energy in working for survival until the Lord’s hand was heavily upon him.
